Tourist Attractions

Heritage

Charminar

The Charminar, built in 1591 AD, is as much the signature of Hyderabad as the Taj Mahal is of Agra or the Eiffel Tower is of Paris. Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty built Charminar in 1591 AD, shortly after he had shifted his capital from Golkonda to what is now known as Hyderabad. He built this famous structure to commemorate the elimination of a plague epidemic from this city. He is said to have prayed for the end of a plague that was ravaging his city and vowed to build a masjid at the very place where he was praying.

Charminar

Charminar, the symbol of Hyderabad, stands right in the middle of the road. The area is famous for shopping , the main one being the variety of bangles you get in the so called "Chudi bazaar" Every thing here is very cheap for those who know the art of bargaining. The best time to visit charminar is during ramzaan when the market is open all through the night.

Golconda

Originally a mud fort founded by the Kakatiya Kings of Warangal during the 13th century, Golconda attained glory under the Qutub Shahi dynasty (1518 to 1687). This is where the priceless Kohinoor diamond was found. One of the famous forts of India, an added attraction here is an enchanting sound & light show in the evenings. One of the most interesting look of Golconda Fort is its system of acoustics. The sounds of hands clapped at the entry gate can be heard clearly at 'Bala Hissar', the highest point, a kilometre away.

Golconda Fort

This Fort is a Heritage site, and is definitely worth visiting for the Historical and Architectural importance. It will be helpful to have a proper guide with you to explain the various intricacies in the construction. The walk to explore the fort may be tiring but is surely is worth it. The view of the city from the top of the fort is amazing and so is the sound and light show organized in the evening.

Salarjung museum

The envy of global collectors, a treasure house of antiques and an amazing display of art - the Salar Jung Museum is the largest single man collection in the world. Compiled by Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, the collection is mind boggling not only in number but also in the variety of items. Some of the unique items are, the Veiled Rebecca, Marguerite & Mephistopheles (a two sided sculpture), the Sword of Aurangazeeb, gem studded daggers of Emperors Jahangir & Shah Jahan and Queen Noor Jahan, etc. It is one of the three National Museums of India with collection of sculptures, paintings, carvings, textiles, manuscripts, ceramics, metallic artefacts, carpets, clocks, and furniture from Japan, China, Burma, Nepal, India, Persia, Egypt, Europe, and North America. The museum's collection was sourced from the property of the Salar Jung family

Salarjung Museum

A very beautiful museum with a breath taking collection. The museum is so huge it would take three days to view all the collections Personally i am not a fan of museums but the collection of artifacts are so huge everyone will find something of their interests. The variety of artillery is commendable.

Ramoji film city

A city inside a city!! It is hyderabad's answer to "HOLLYWOOD". There is nothing i can write to describe about the place , all i can say is you "gottavisit"

Hussain Sagar

Set in between the twin-cities, with one of the world's tallest monolithic statues of Buddha in the middle, the Hussainsagar is a picturesque man-made lake. Created by Hussain Shah Wali, during the reign of Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in 1562,.

Hussain Sagar - Buddha Statue

The lake is beautiful to look at night and drive around the road is wonderful. The road is named Necklace road because of the shape and the lights. The Boat ride to the buddha statue is a must do. There is a choice of speed boat too.
The experience of being on a peice of land in the middle of a lake with a huge sculpture of lord buddha shouldnt be missed.

Eating joints one must visit at Hyderabad

Breakfast

Govind Dosa

A roadside bandi, the Charminar by the side, old city wooden walls and old houses outlining the entire area around, the whiff of the attar being sold nearby, Chor bazaar merchandise selling briskly all around you, if it is a Sunday that you have chosen to visit Govinds Bandi, its not just a taste of those wonderful Butter Dosas that you will savour, but an entire experience around it. Truly Legendary in its own forte, Govind dishes out some of the best Dosas you will ever try in your life for the next 5 years too. Carefully cut out pieces of Amul butter, quite a generous size that, is splurged with a mix of spices and mashed tomatoes is what goes over your special, perfectly crispy, nnbot too over burnt and that exact level of heat gives you the famous Govinds bandi Dosa. An experience in itself. Do try out his famous Butter Idly or the wonderful preparation, Tawa Idly, you shall be presently surprised. Its just a roadside Bandi, you might wonder, but the taste, a class apart. Usually, it is always crowded and especially on a Sunday, your order for Dosa could make you wait for an hour sometimes, but trust me, its worth the wait.

Chutneys

Excellent restaurant for veggies. It offers both north & south Indian food.
It's very crowded but still, I was impressed with the efficiency of managing the system effortlessly
The most essential item in a typical South Indian breakfast is not the Idly or the Dosa but the Chutneys, Podi or Powders and the Sambar. And the Chutney's restaurants have totally captured that essence. From super soft Idlies to steaming Filter Coffee, they cater to your everyday tastes and have also a few specials like the famed Steamed Dosa made without a single drop of oil for those of you who are calorie conscious. The decor and the ambience are pleasant and the staff is amicable too.

Lunch / Dinner

Rayalseema ruchulu

Game for spicy seema style food, filled with loads of spices and more meat, here is your bet. Rayalaseema ruchulu as the name suggests, serves the best of the varities of the non vegetarian cuisine especially famous in that part of Andhra. Quite different from the regular spicy Andhra food, this place not only serves some of the best meat dishes in the city, but boasts about its quality and variety too. The food is exceptional, there is no second thoughts. The Rayalseema special Mutton fry is divine, with the mutton soft and succelent and well marinated in spices. Try some of the sea food varieties, like the Royala pulusu and Fish pulusu, and you will be really overwhelmed. Perfect mix of tangy and spicy taste to the meat and you will love it. They serve some of the off beat dishes like the Rabbit fry or the Quail curry, commonly available in the seema but made specially for you . All in all, if you want some good Andhra style style cuisine, here is your best bet

A' La Liberty

A great family place for vegetarians. The beauty of this place is that, they serve, not only Indian, but multi-cusine Veg food, and although I wouldn't say it's cheap, it's definitely not overpriced either (to make sure the crowd is decent). And like I said, a great family place - you usually have toddlers running about between tables while parents (and staff) keep a watch. Also available, a buffet which lets you taste a variety of cuisines from chat, north Indian gravies to Italian, Chinese etc. The ambiance is very beautiful.

Cofee House

Testa Rossa

This has to be one of the best cafe's that I have come across in a long time. The moment I entered this place I fell in love with the ambiance. The place looks very small from the outside but opens into a very large space. They have a beautiful roof top which is awesome when you visit this place during the late evening hours. The food is really good although the price is slightly on the higher end.

Beyond Cofee

A nice place to sit out with friends, or to keep that conversation running, Beyond Coffee, on Road # 36, is a good place for an evening cuppa or some late evening dinner or tid bits over some good coffee. Some of their brews like the Piccaso's passion or the Leonardo's secret are quite interesting, especially the Cafe Mocha or the Lattes. If you want to try some authentic local coffee brew, try the Araku emerald brew at Beyond Coffee.

Night Life

10 Downing Street

10 Downing Street always has been a favorite and has had really great parties. The entire ambiance is themed around an old time Irish/English pub with the wooden tables and old styled lights and leather couches. Just enough light for a quiet conversation on a lazy afternoon over beers and laughter, or you could hit the floor with some crazy EDM music playing on the Saturday night and some brilliant cocktails and shooters. The Whisky sour is quite nice. They also serve some good food especially the sandwiches and the Indian food is also quite good, though it is quite ironical that they serve Indian food, but the Hyderabadi palate is satisfied quite well. its always a party at TDS,

Kismet

If you are bored on a Saturday and wondering where to head for some good drinks, great music and a fantastic party. Kismet is the best nightclub in Hyderabad as of now, with the most happening parties and the best events in town. Priced moderately with a pint of beer costing Rs 185, the interiors are quite chic and quite classy. The lights which they have used are also quite nice and gives the proper look of a good lounge bar. Located in the centre of the city at Somajiguda, thats just a statement how it is the party epicentre of Hyderabad now. A must visit place if your game for some good electronic music and cocktails.
