Tourist Attractions

Heritage

Charminar

The Charminar, built in 1591 AD, is as much the signature of Hyderabad as the Taj Mahal is of Agra or the Eiffel Tower is of Paris. Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty built Charminar in 1591 AD, shortly after he had shifted his capital from Golkonda to what is now known as Hyderabad. He built this famous structure to commemorate the elimination of a plague epidemic from this city. He is said to have prayed for the end of a plague that was ravaging his city and vowed to build a masjid at the very place where he was praying.

Charminar

Charminar, the symbol of Hyderabad, stands right in the middle of the road. The area is famous for shopping , the main one being the variety of bangles you get in the so called "Chudi bazaar" Every thing here is very cheap for those who know the art of bargaining. The best time to visit charminar is during ramzaan when the market is open all through the night.

Golconda

Originally a mud fort founded by the Kakatiya Kings of Warangal during the 13th century, Golconda attained glory under the Qutub Shahi dynasty (1518 to 1687). This is where the priceless Kohinoor diamond was found. One of the famous forts of India, an added attraction here is an enchanting sound & light show in the evenings. One of the most interesting look of Golconda Fort is its system of acoustics. The sounds of hands clapped at the entry gate can be heard clearly at 'Bala Hissar', the highest point, a kilometre away.

Golconda Fort

This Fort is a Heritage site, and is definitely worth visiting for the Historical and Architectural importance. It will be helpful to have a proper guide with you to explain the various intricacies in the construction. The walk to explore the fort may be tiring but is surely is worth it. The view of the city from the top of the fort is amazing and so is the sound and light show organized in the evening.

Salarjung museum

The envy of global collectors, a treasure house of antiques and an amazing display of art - the Salar Jung Museum is the largest single man collection in the world. Compiled by Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, the collection is mind boggling not only in number but also in the variety of items. Some of the unique items are, the Veiled Rebecca, Marguerite & Mephistopheles (a two sided sculpture), the Sword of Aurangazeeb, gem studded daggers of Emperors Jahangir & Shah Jahan and Queen Noor Jahan, etc. It is one of the three National Museums of India with collection of sculptures, paintings, carvings, textiles, manuscripts, ceramics, metallic artefacts, carpets, clocks, and furniture from Japan, China, Burma, Nepal, India, Persia, Egypt, Europe, and North America. The museum's collection was sourced from the property of the Salar Jung family

Salarjung Museum

A very beautiful museum with a breath taking collection. The museum is so huge it would take three days to view all the collections Personally i am not a fan of museums but the collection of artifacts are so huge everyone will find something of their interests. The variety of artillery is commendable.
